Nov. 27, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Chinese stocks extended gains on Thursday, after the central bank cut interest rate to bolster the economic development.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, gained 1.05%, or 19.98 points, to 1917.86 points after fluctuating between 2022.48 and 2022.48 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange edged up 2.29% or 149.37 points to 6683.24 points, after touching an intraday low of 6683.24 points.
Gainers in the Shanghai market outnumbered decliners by 607 to 165, while 81 were unchanged. Aggregated turnover on the two bourses was RMB 60.880 billion.
Generally speaking, real estate stocks led the gains.
China Vanke Co Ltd<000002><200002>, the country's largest publicly traded residential properties developer, added 3.09% to RMB 7.01. Gemdale Corp<600383>, one of the largest property developers in China, surged 5.42% to close at RMB 7.39. COFCO Property (Group) Co. Ltd<000031> rose 3.52% to RMB 6.17.
Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857><PTR>, the nation's top oil producer, edged up 1.52% to close at RMB 11.38, while Asia's largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386><SNP> gained 0.74% to close at RMB 8.16.
China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628><LFC>, the country's largest life insurance company, edged up 0.54% to RMB 20.30, while its smaller rival Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318> advanced 0.97% to RMB 23.90.
Air China Ltd<601111><753>, the largest carrier in the country by market value, went up 6.14% to RMB 4.15. China Eastern Airlines<600115><670><CEA>, the country's third-largest carrier, were suspended from trading today pending an announcement of the central government's capital injection into its parent company.
CITIC Securities Co Ltd<600030>, the country's most profitable brokerage, jumped 4.06% to RMB 20.23. Changjiang Securities Co Ltd<000783> added 2.37% to settle at RMB 10.80. Haitong Securities Co Ltd<600837>, a Shanghai-based brokerage, rose 0.88% to close at RMB 9.14.
